This comprehensive NMG (Nature, Human, Society) teaching material on the topic of forests was developed for grades 1-4 and is based on Curriculum 21. All content is differentiated three ways, allowing children with varying learning abilities to work on the same topic.
The focus is on the plants of the forest and fundamental relationships within the forest ecosystem. Children learn about the structure of trees, explore roots, trunk, and crown, differentiate between deciduous, coniferous, and mixed forests, and discover the various layers of the forest. They get to know selected trees and forest plants in more detail and grapple with important processes such as photosynthesis.
The emphasis is not on rote memorization. Children observe, compare, classify, investigate, hypothesize, justify, and explain. Factual knowledge is combined with discovery-based and action-oriented learning.
The teaching material can be used flexibly. It is suitable for both station work and guided instruction. The individual materials can be worked through collaboratively step-by-step or used as independent learning stations. This allows the teaching format to be adapted to the specific class, the children's learning abilities, and the available teaching time.
The teaching material contains a wide selection of materials for varied and structured forest lessons. These include, among other things, three-way differentiated knowledge cards, audio texts and worksheets, learning games, quiz cards, matching materials, plant cards, and explorer cards for learning directly in the forest.
The various materials logically interlink and can be used both as a complete teaching unit and individually.
New technical terms are introduced in an understandable way and complex relationships are explained so that children can comprehend them.
This creates a forest lesson where children not only name plants but also recognize their characteristics, understand relationships, and increasingly consciously perceive and discover the forest for themselves.
